Coronavirus Projects - Conservatory

This has been a bit of a mission and I have now run out of paint to finish it. I've ordered some but have no idea if and when it will arrive. Plus we cannot buy any roofing as all the builders are closed. Hopefully we will be able to get the roof done before the Winter as our leaks seem to be getting worse.

I've managed so far to do most of the decorating with paint that I've already got but I ordered all purpose paint for the conservatory as there is a lot of wood beams and panelling and it is all varnished. It would be an absolute nightmare to rub everything down. The woodwork is still in very good condition so it is worth spending some time on it. I ran out of paint because it is a little thin and needed 2 coats. I'd rather paint 2 coats than rub down varnish though!

So here's the progress so far. The bottom half is not painted as we are going to insulate and panel it with PVC panelling so that it is easy to keep clean and isn't home to cellar spiders.

The colour is a bit of a shock. I was hoping it would be a dark blue but NO it has come out like a bright royal blue when the sun shines. The joys of buying paint. However, it does make me smile when I walk in there.

I would love our conservatory to be like another room, but it really is the entrance to our house as most people in Wales use the back door around here. Our dog goes in and out and it is used a lot. I mainly use it for exercising, well that's the plan anyway, when my rowing machine isn't being used as a coat rack.

I've also painted an old cupboard that we bought for £5! at an auction. I call it the Moon cupboard and it is home to my art materials. I have painted the moon phases inside the 9 little circles at the top. The dresser, another project is just waiting for the handles to dry and then that will be complete too. Both are shabby chic as I wanted to try that out.

I will post some finished photos when we've managed to get supplies.

Coronavirus Projects - Mum's bedroom

Keeping busy during the Coronavirus pandemic. I've been on a decorating spree, sorting out cupboards and bagging things up for recycling, charity and selling etc plus, painting old furniture.

My mum also has a multi-purpose bedroom as we all down-sized to move to Wales. She had 3 wardrobes in her bedroom plus her sewing table, dressing table, bed and bedside tables. It's a lovely large room but was looking a bit cramped. She wanted to keep her bedroom furniture, but was happy to let 2 of the wardrobes go as I was replacing them with a much bigger wardrobe that would fit everything in. No more things under the bed or at the sides and on top of wardrobes.

All her lovely things organised a little better

I found the perfect wardrobe that is nice and deep and that would fit into the alcove almost perfectly. It sticks out a little but it will never be coming out again that's for sure! Good job I painted behind it. This was a flat pack so Lee and myself spent an afternoon putting it all together.

After filling in cracks etc I decided to paint the walls white and one wall a duck egg blue. She loves it and says it feels so much bigger. It really does but also still has all her little personal things in. The big wardrobe has loads more space inside and is so much more organised. I also bought her a small white filing cabinet for all her paperwork.

It's lovely, clean and fresh now and has plenty of space to move around. We always have blankets on the bed as Hooch our dog loves to jump on the beds.

I forgot to take a before picture, you will just have to trust that this is an improvement.

Skull Themed Bedroom

So what started out as just decorating inside the cupboard turned into a re-vamp of our bedroom.

I bought some fantastic 3D self-adhesive foam brick tiles and was going to insulate inside a fitted cupboard as things were getting a bit mouldy. I've never had this problem before but I guess the air flow isn't too good in this old stone cottage. My partner also put in air vents and now the problem has disappeared. Anyway, I was really impressed with these stick on tiles so decided to do the bedroom as well.

They are super sticky but what is also great is that you can cut single ones etc if you have awkward spaces or odd shaped walls due to a slanted ceiling. I really wasn't sure at first. I thought they might look tacky, but I am really pleased with the result. Occasionally one might lift a bit but I just slap it and it sorts that out.

Skull wallpaper on cupboard
It also spurred me into finally putting up our skull mural. I was going to do the whole wall but decided on just the cupboard doors. They are pretty big anyway. I'm glad I did that. The pine effect paint job has now gone and I really love the wallpaper. I think some people might get a shock when they visit our room, but I'm pretty sure it will also bring a smile.

I didn't stop there and decided that the bedroom needed a bit of colour so I ordered some mustard coloured paint and painted all our old pine furniture grey and yellow.. It came out a bit brighter than intended but still looks okay. New knobs and it looks completely different.

I gave my art desk a re-vamp too (again) with some skull tissue paper and gloss paint and bought a new little swivel chair that goes up and down.
It's now a great bedroom and workspace. 😄

So here are the photos of our bedroom/multi-purpose room.

Almost forgot the disgusting pine effect varnished beams are now white (3 coats I think) but look so much better. I was never going to be able to get down to the original wood with all that paint and varnish on so this was the better option and I think looks great anyway. I hope you can see those 3D sticky tiles on the lower half off the walls and on the end walls.
