The May Garden

Not so many flowers in this part of the garden this year. We had a late frost which killed a lot of Lupins and left lots of gaps. I've replaced these now with some new plants but they are a little small to make a difference this year.

Finally, New Border in the Caravan Garden

Well, it's been some time since I posted our progress in the garden. The caravan section is almost complete, we just have 2 bird boxes to put up. Here's some of our Before and After photos for this section of the garden. We used the old Breeze Blocks from the greenhouse and a couple of old doors for the back. Old broken roofing tiles were added to the border to stop some of the weeds until the plants grow.

New Border for Next Year

Although I've been trying to keep the borders to a minimum, the area by the side of the house was really in need of a bit of TLC. I kept some crocosmia especially for this so that it would be low maintenance but also look good in the Summer. The hedge is looking a bit bare so I've planted a Forsythia and Butterfly Bush to fill the gaps and make a nice show. There is a Rose Bush and Lilac there already but the Lilac hasn't flowered. Planning to remove the 2 hedge plants when the new bushes fill out so there will only be pruning to do and the bushes can grow back fuller. It doesn't look great at the moment but hopefully next year it will start to fill out. There's some Ivy at the back so I'm going to try and tease it round the front so that the frogs and newts in this border will be happy.

Caravan Patch

Slowly making progress on the patch by the side of the caravan. This has been pretty hard going. The ground is very gravelly and full of stones but I've managed to clear it of weeds ready for plants. So glad we brought some of our plants from Birmingham. Hopefully they will all take and we will have a nice border this Summer. At the moment I'm making do with our pot plants and existing plants from the new garden. Saving little primroses from all over the garden is not the most exciting of jobs but I'm after low maintenance ground cover that will look pretty in Spring. Lee has started making a new fence after the wind demolished the existing one.

Plants in this border include: Hawthorn Tree, Buddleia, Holly Tree, Hydrangea, Roses, Peasants Bush, Winter Camelia, Red Robin, Ferns, Lavender, Lupins, Roses, Foxgloves, Daffodils and Primroses. I think this border is going to be very full once it has grown.
